Job Description Tourism Specialist Job Description This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting directly to the Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. Job Description Summary: • Promote the City of Moberly and surrounding areas as a tourist, athletic and convention destination in order to drive hotel and leisure sales and tax revenues. Create annual tourism sales and marketing strategies. • Develop sales leads and conduct sales activities with the goal of generating overnight stays in the City. Host tour operators, travel writers and others to familiarize them with the Moberly community. • Maintain relationships with event planners and other hospitality partners. • Represent the City to various tourism and business associations, boards, and organizations in order to promote Moberly as a convention site. Essential Job Functions: • Evaluate hospitality and tourism offerings in Moberly to continue to improve service delivery. • Work with city staff and volunteers to secure sponsors, develop marketing materials, advertise, promote, and oversee the city’s special events; work with private event managers to cross promote the city’s brand. • Create advertising and marketing budgets for events and promotion activities; secure, manage and track sponsorships and paid advertising for city events; submit monthly expense reports. • Calculate the number of visitors to each special event; track advertising success rates via click through, website landing pages etc; submit quarterly reports to the economic development board and city council. • Prepare bids for possible conventions and events. • Perform public relations and administrative tasks for special events and projects as necessary. • Manage the city’s tourism website to promote local businesses and events to residents and businesses; create and promote advertising space on the website as a part of the sponsorship package for businesses; develop content for the website; update and enhance the website weekly with new event information; link the website to the City of Moberly, Chambers and other regional travel promotion sites. • Maintain existing Facebook, Instagram and Twitter sites and add additional social media outlets to the tourism marketing effort, including but not limited to Snapchat and Pinterest. Update and enhance social media platforms weekly with new information. • Design, print and distribute posters, rack cards and print advertising to attract residents and visitors to special events; create and distribute media kits at tradeshows; provide editorial content for the City of Moberly visitor guide. • Utilize print, on-line, and radio to target travelers; place events on travel portals; submit regular news releases to local media regarding events; create and implement innovative promotional campaigns to drive residents and visitors to visit local businesses; Continue to work with Moberly Area Tourism, Moberly Parks and Recreation, State Parks, Missouri Division of Tourism, and local photographers to collect photo images, video, B-roll, etc., of the area. • Create sponsorship packages to bring value to businesses supporting special events; network with local businesses to import the value involvement in community events. • Attend Tourism Commission Quarterly Meetings.
Required Skills & Experience Qualifications: • Minimum three years of experience in a sales and marketing or public administration role. • Must possess and maintain valid driver’s license and safe driving record. • Knowledge of the principles convention and tourism management and public relations. • Ability to effectively communicate to the press, government organizations, private businesses and organizations to promote Moberly’s tourism and visitor services. • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities. Interpersonal skills to successfully develop positive intergovernmental, private sector and community relationships. • Ability to organize and coordinate a broad range of special projects.
Educational Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality & Restaurant Management, Marketing, or closely related field preferred.

Job Description The Missouri Association of Convention & Visitors Bureau is soliciting applications for the position of Executive Director. This position is a contract for services approved for one year with opportunity for renewal/negotiation on future year contracts. The contract will be for July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019. The Missouri Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus (MACVB) is the leader of a proactive and professional group of destination marketing and management organizations. Recognized as the influential trade association, MACVB fosters industry cooperation and advocates tourism, economic development, and marketing. MACVB is an instrumental tourism authority in Missouri and serves in an advisory capacity on travel issues to all governmental and industry related entities. Successful applicant will be contracted to provide the following services. Executive Director Duties 1. Offer and provide direction and leadership in the growth and development of the organization. 2. Provide all general administrative and operating services of the office. 3. Provide general accounting services and preparing of a yearly budget with oversight and assistance from the Treasurer. A board approved CPA firm will be contracted to produce monthly reports, file all appropriate state and federal tax documents and other financial reports. 4. Receive and respond to all incoming correspondence by phone, email or mail. 5. Provide support for all Executive Committee and membership meetings/conference calls. Preparing of agenda, meeting room arrangements/conference call service set up, prepares and distributes material for meeting. Take minutes and distribute minutes to Board in a timely manner after each meeting. 6. Planning of Annual Conference. Arrange all details of the Annual Conference including but not limited to the board approved location, agenda, speakers, meals and entertainment. 7. Provide assistance to each of the committees - Legislative, Research, Small Markets, TEAMS and Education. 8. Reach out to new DMO’s for membership and promote allied membership growth. 9. Maintain membership database for CVB bureau members and industry vendors. 10. Provide a monthly E-Newsletter to membership. Work with leadership and committee chairs to submit articles. Edit, publish and distribute the newsletter as often as deemed appropriate (at least once a month). 11. Provide email/mailings to membership regarding legislative issues as requested by legislative representative with Board’s approval. Assist the Legislative Committee as directed by the committee and approved by the board. During Legislative Session forward weekly Legislative reports to membership. 12. Draft and provide correspondence as necessary to State Officials and Legislature. 13. Inform the board and membership of special events or meetings called by the Missouri Division of Tourism. 14. Maintain an appropriate and updated website for the organization.
Required Skills & Experience • At least 3 years’ experience in Tourism, Meeting/Event Planning or Association Management. • Familiarity and experience working as a partner with other agencies/organizations. • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (excel and word), and Quickbooks. • Provision of own office space and office supplies • Self motivated and self-directed. • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. • Ability to work as an effective team member.
