Missouri Travel Council will host this first-time Missouri event March 25-27, at Ameristar Casino Resort Spa in St. Charles, Missouri.  Missouri Sports Travel Exchange will bring sport event organizers and right holders from across the Midwest as well as sports tourism representatives from the entire state for two nights/three days of one-on-one appointments, education and networking!

Preliminary Agenda

Monday, March 25

1:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.  Registration Ameristar Lobby

3:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.  St. Charles Sports FAM (by invite only)
St. Charles CVB will offer a tour of the following facilities;

  • CarShield Field (hosts MSHSAA State Baseball, hosted the 2018 Frontier League All-Star Game)
  • Rec-Plex (hosts State Wars, hosts MSHAA State Swimming and Diving)
  • Lindenwood University – Hyland Arena (recently hosted the MIC Conference Gymnastics Championships)
  • Saint Charles Convention Center (hosts Talent on Parade Talent Show, will host the 2018 Strongman National Amateur Championships in October)
  • Family Arena (hosted NCAA Women’s Frozen Four, hosted the Missouri Valley Women’s Conference Basketball tournament).

Transportation will be provided departing from the Ameristar at 3:00 p.m.

    When it comes to the success of a sports tourism destination marketplace, the importance of developing sustainable relationships with local stakeholders in the community cannot be overstated enough. Please join us for an open and interactive conversation on engaging your local businesses, volunteers, and facility owners and operators by forming an Athletic Events Committee. Hear real-life examples of the logistics and benefits of adding an AEC to your list of tourism advocacy groups.
  2. MO Amateur Sports Tax Credit – Marc Schreiber, St. Louis Sports Commission & Mike Sharpe, Kansas City Sports Commission
    The Missouri Amateur Sporting Tax Credit Program was passed in March of 2013 by the Missouri General Assembly and became effective August 28, 2013. The program was revised, reauthorized in the 2018 legislative session. The law’s intent is to aid in the attraction of amateur sporting events to the state of Missouri. Sit down with the experts to discuss how you can use these tax credit funds to bring more sports tourism to your area.
  3. Working with Your Area Parks & Rec on Sports Tourism – Mike Griggs, Director, Columbia Parks & Rec Dept.
    One of the greatest resources for any city is the area Park & Recreation. Experts, planners, and suppliers sit down with these folks and discuss forming a great partnership and booking business.
  4. Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) – Craig Long, Chief Financial Officer
    You just received that 30-page RFP, now what? Sit down with the CFO of MSHSAA and get the scoop on their RFP process, policies and procedures!
  5. National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) – Hannah Harmon, Championship Event Manager
    Sit down with Hannah and learn the best practices on combing your brand with your host/city’s brand. An important marketing piece in planning any event!
  6. Working with Universities on Sports Tourism/Events – Brad Wachler, VP For Intercollegiate Athletics At Lindenwood University

Sport Event Organizers and Right Holders

Registration is complimentary for all sport event planners and includes two-nights lodging (Monday-Tuesday) at the Ameristar, all meals that are a part of the event and marketplace appointments. A special room rate of $99 plus tax is available for those wishing to arrive early (Sunday), based on availability. Travel cost to and from St. Charles are the responsibility of the attendee. Free shuttle service is available from the airport to Ameristar. Please complete the planner profile sheet when you register. Your room reservation will be made by our event planner once you complete the registration form.

Cannot attend the 2019 Missouri Sports Travel Exchange?

For just $75, your destination profile sheet can be included in the on-site registration packet. Your profile sheet must be 8.5x11 and can be 2 sided. The sheets must be submitted to the MSTE Event Planner by March 1, 2019. A Missouri Travel Council representative will contact you regarding the number of profile sheets you should provide.
